Membership For Businesses, Organizations
The League of Nebraska Municipalities is a nonprofit service association formed in 1909 to serve as a voice for Nebraska municipalities at the Nebraska Legislature.
Governed by a 15-member Executive Board comprised of municipal officials, the League now has more than 385 member cities and villages. It represents cities whose population totals 98 percent of Nebraskans who live in municipalities.
The mission of the League of Nebraska Municipalities is to represent the interests of member cities and villages to preserve local control and empower municipal officials to shape the destiny of their municipality and improve the quality of life of their citizens.
All Nebraska municipalities are eligible to become members. Contact the League office today at 402-476-2829 for information about joining the League.
Membership Offers These Benefits:
- Representation before the Nebraska Legislature. The League sponsors and encourages beneficial legislation on behalf of cities and villages; it opposes laws and legislation that would be detrimental to the interests of municipalities. Working with the Governor's office, state Senators and other lobbying organizations is an ongoing process that keeps the League busy fighting for members' interests all year.
- Technical assistance to member municipalities. The League's attorneys offer invaluable technical assistance.
- Reduced registration fees to informative League conferences. Through the League's informative conferences, seminars and training programs, you can gain the latest important information affecting you and your municipality. The League's conferences also offer you a chance to network with your colleagues. For more information about League conferences, see Calendar of Events.
- A link between city attorneys and the League's Legal Counsel on key legal opinions.
- Coordination of Utilities Section activities with the League.
- Coordination of municipal clerks and finance officers activities.
- A link with the National League of Cities.
- Access to survey and research studies.
- Copies of the Nebraska Municipal Review, the League's monthly magazine. Free classified advertising is offered in the Review to member municipalities.
- Copies of the Legislative Bulletin, the League's weekly newsletter produced during session.
- Copies of the Nebraska Directory of Municipal Officials, the League's annual publication listing information about each municipality and municipal officials. [See Directory for a sample page of publication. See Directory advertising contract for information about advertising rates and advertising copy dimensions. The League in partnership with American Legal Publishing Corporation also offers a codification service to all municipalities for a separate cost.
